In OT Israel, only a few were saved. In the NT Church , only a few are saved. There are many tares in the Church

Paul was afraid that he might become a CASTAWAY (rejected, unapproved, counterfeit). 1 Cor 9;27. So he treated his sin harshly (he buffetted his flesh).
There are 51 verses in the Bible that speaks of CAST AWAY. (e-Sword software, KJV)

Lev_26:44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

In OT Israel, only a few were saved. Rom_9:27 Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
Which is a foreshadow of the Remnant in the NT Church. There are many tares in the Church.
In the NT Church , only a few are saved.
Paul called the NT Church, the “Israel of God”. Gal_6:16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
OT Israel is the foreshadow of the NT Church.
OT saints were the foreshadow of the NT saints.
OT lambs were the foreshadow of the NT Lamb of God, Jesus. “Christ is our Passover.” Col 2;16.
The OT Covenant with Israel was the foreshadow of the NT Covenant with the Church.
The OT sacrifices were the foreshadow of the NT Sacrifice (Christ on the Cross).
OT circumcision (of the flesh) = NT circumcision (of the Spiritual heart). This is the TOKEN of the COVENANT. Gen_17:11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.

In OT Israel, a great sinner was stoned to death (loss of physical life).
which is a foreshadow of, In the NT Church, a great sinner was excommunicated from the assembly (loss of Spiritual life, loss of salvation) , and Paul delivered him over to satan for the destruction of his flesh, yet his spirit could be saved.
1Co_5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1Ti_1:20 Of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.
The prodigal son was alive, then dead, but was alive AGAIN. (people who lose their salvation can get saved again, I think).
Luk_15:24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
Luk_15:32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Eze 18:21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
