A crippling ice storm is likely in the Augusta-Columbia corridor with over 1 inch of solid ice accretion possible. Widespread, prolonged power outages and severe damage to trees are expected. Falling trees, limbs and downed wires will pose a potential danger to drivers and pedestrians Tuesday night into Wednesday and Wednesday night. Trees may also fall on houses. Roads, especially narrower roads in forested areas, may be blocked by tree debris and downed wires. Power outages will knock out traffic signals, adding to the driving danger. Surface roads may not see a tremendous ice buildup, but bridges and overpasses will be extremely hazardous if not totally impassable.
